Monument Industry Mourns Loss Of Former Elberton Granite Association Exec. VP, Tom Robinson

Many in the monument industry are mourning the passing of the Elberton Granite Association's long-time Executive Vice President, Thomas Allan "Tom" Robinson who passed away Tuesday, July 12, 2016.

Upon moving to Elberton, Georgia, Tom worked for Century Granite Company, and in 1981 he began working as the EGA's Assistant to the Executive Vice President. In 1991 he took the role of Executive Vice President and served in that position until 2009.

Tom proudly represented Elberton's granite industry around the world. He was a Certified Memorialist and earned the professional designation of Certified Association Executive. He received the Presidential Award from the Monument Builders of North America, and was recognized by the American Institute of Commemorative Art.

Tom was an Eagle Scout, and a graduate of the University of Georgia where he was a member of Pi Kappa Phi. Upon graduation he received a commission as a Second Lieutenant in the US Army. Tom served in Vietnam and was awarded the Bronze Star and the Purple Heart for his action in combat.

He was active at First Baptist Church in Elberton where he served as a deacon for many years. He was a Paul Harris Fellow and member of Rotary International, a member of the Elbert County Development Authority, served on the Board of Petersburg Towers, and on the Elbert Memorial Hospital Authority where he served as chairman.

Tom is survived by his wife Linda, son, daughter, and three grandchildren.
